Kyogamisaki Cape
Kyogamisaki Cape is the northernmost cape of the Kinki region. The cape was named Kyogamisaki--literally "Buddhist scriptures cape"--because its shape resembles that of many scrolls of Buddhist scriptures. There is a habitat of falcons near the cape.

Kyogamisaki Lighthouse
The sea off Kyogamisaki has long been known as a dangerous spot for ships. This white lighthouse was built in 1898. This is one of only five lighthouses in Japan that uses a first-grade lens. There are remains of a quarry on the coast below the lighthouse. Stone quarried from there was used to build the lighthouse.

ガイドさんのおすすめポイント!

You can see a great view from the white Kyogamisaki Lighthouse, which is praised as one of the three most beautiful lighthouses in Japan. You should also visit the beautiful andesite columnar joints near the lighthouse. Walking westward down the excursion path that leads from the parking lot to the coast, then going to the tip of the cape, you can enjoy a wonderful view of beautiful, 800-meter-long columnar joints that formed from slowly cooling lava that flowed out of an erupting volcano 3.8 million years ago. You can enjoy the contrast of the ragged andesite rocks of columnar joints and seashore rocks rounded by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan.
